SWADFEST 09 – a week of exhibitions, free arts activities and events! Swadfest was a little more green this year, with lots of environmentally friendly workshops and activities for you to try. Take a look at…
ART EXHIBITION: Swadlincote Town Hall, Friday 26th June to Friday 3rd July.
An exciting opportunity to see and buy the work of nearly 50 local and regional artists. The exhibition includes paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures, ceramics and crafts. Free entrance, tea and coffee available.

PRINTING WORKSHOP: Swadlincote Library, Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th June, 10am to 3.30pm
Come along and join in this free arts activity making bags and banners using traditional printing techniques with the Newhall Arts Collective. This is a drop-in workshop.
FESTIVAL OF LEISURE: Maurice Lee Memorial Park, Church Gresley, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June
This year there will a special SWADFEST marquee with free arts activities for all ages. Workshops from 1pm to 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
DESIGN A BIN COMPETITION: Children have been invited to ‘design a bin you want to put litter in’ – what does look like? does it have a name? is it magical? what colour is it? how big is it? does it move or speak, what is it made of? The winning entry will be made into a life size model (a real bin) by a professional artist and displayed at the Festival of Leisure. Selected entries will be included on exhibition panels shown throughout the festival.
ART EXHIBITION: Swadlincote ACE Centre, Rinkway, Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd June, 10am – 3pm
This exhibition will contain a super variety of arts & crafts and a very high standard of work from learners enrolled on courses at Swadlincote ACE Centre, with some artwork from Willington and Hatton classes. Artwork showcased will be:
City & Guilds Machine Embroidery Levels 1 and 2, Creative Textiles including items made from recycled materials, Art, Watercolour Painting & Drawing, Mixed Media, Pottery, Parchment Craft, Willow Weaving, Upholstery & Furniture, Restoration and Family Learning.
COLOURING TEXTILES FOR CRAFTERS: Swadlincote ACE Centre, Rinkway, Tuesday 30th June, 10am – 4pm
A variety of dyes and techniques will be used to create beautiful effects. Use the results in different ways with embellishment to make striking cards, bags, book covers or items of your choice. Contact the Centre on 01283 228400 to reserve a place.
Full Fee £19/Derbyshire Gold Card Holders £17/ In receipt of benefit £7 (materials included).
WILLOW WEAVING: Swadlincote ACE Centre, Rinkway, Wednesday 1st July, 1pm – 3pm
Course will cover basic skills and techniques to make a platter or small decorative item. Contact the Centre on 01283 228400 to reserve a place.
Fee £7 (materials included) Derbyshire Gold Card Holders £6, in receipt of benefit £3.
CRAFT FAYRE: Sharpe’s Museum, Wednesday 1st July, 10am to 4pm
A fantastic collection of crafts and exhibitors to choose from and a chance to try some too! With a free potters wheel and silk painting workshops.
VALUATION DAY: Sharpe’s Pottery, Wednesday 1st July, 2.30pm to 4pm
James Lewis of Bamford’s Auctioneers will be offering advice and valuations.
We request £1 per item towards museum upkeep please.
GHOST STORIES IN THE KILN by Cat Weatherhill: Sharpe’s Pottery, Saturday July 4th, Doors/bar open 7pm, performance starts 7.30pm

LIVE MUSIC AND DJING: Swadlincote Town Hall, Saturday 4th July, 10am to 4pm
Come along and listen to local bands performing, take part in DJing sessions and DJing workshops. Check out the live sound check for bands between 12pm to 1pm. Free event.
